Advanced Materials for Emerging Water Pollutant Removal

Water scarcity affects around 40% of the world's population and, to make the situation worse, 80% of wastewater enters water bodies without being adequately treated. The term advanced materials can include nanomaterials, biomaterials and energy materials and many of these advanced materials have been demonstrated to be useful for removing pollutants from water. A wide range of advanced materials can be prepared through affordable, energy-efficient approaches and they can easily be retrofitted to existing wastewater systems. In the last decade, tremendous progress has been made in the field of synthesis and application of advanced materials especially for environmental remediation.

Advanced Materials for Emerging Water Pollutant Removal focuses on the synthesis, characterisation and application of advanced materials that can be used for the removal of various emerging water pollutants. With an emphasis on renewable starting materials and sustainable processes this is a great book for environmental chemists, materials scientists and water treatment specialists alike.

Goh Pei Sean is an Associate Professor in the School of Chemical and Energy Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). She received her PhD degree in Gas Engineering in 2012 in UTM. Pei Sean is an associate research fellow of the Advanced Membrane Research Technology Research Centre (AMTEC), UTM. She is also the Head of Nanostructured Materials Research Group in UTM. Her research interests focus on the synthesis of a wide range of nanostructured materials and their composites for membrane-based separation processes. One of the main focuses of her research is the applications of carbon-based nanomaterials and polymeric nanocomposite membranes for acidic gas removal as well as desalination and wastewater treatment. Pei Sean has authored or co-authored more than 100 research papers. She has also contributed 10 book chapters and 1 edited research book. Her research publication has received about 2570 citations and her current Scopus H-index is 27.

Ahmad Fauzi Ismail is Professor at Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering UTM. He is the Vice Deputy Chancellor (Research and Innovation) of UTM. His research interest are in development of polymeric, inorganic and novel mixed matrix membranes for water desalination, waste water treatment, gas separation processes, membrane for palm oil refining, photocatalytic membrane for removal of emerging contaminants, development of haemodialysis membrane and polymer electrolyte membrane for fuel cell applications. He obtained his PhD. in Chemical & Process Engineering in 1997 from University of Strathclyde and MSc. and BSc. from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in 1992 and 1989 respectively. His research has been published in many high impact factor journals. He also actively authored many academic books in this field which published by reputable international publishers. He is the author and co-author of over 550 refereed journals. He has authored 6 books, 50 book chapters and 4 edited books, 6 Patents granted, 14 Patents pending. His h-index is 72 with cumulative citation of over 23800.
