It covers the advancements in photonics and trends in photocatalysis, photovoltaics, photonic nanogenerators, quantum sensors, and integrated artificial intelligence and machine learning in optical sensors.
Advanced Photonic Devices for Energy and Sensing Applications covers emerging trends in optics and photonics for sustainable energy and next-generation sensing. The book is divided into two different sections; the first one focuses on the recent developments and prospects of utilizing photonics for energy applications such as solar cells, photovoltaics, and photocatalysis. The latter section is devoted to advanced topics on optical sensor technology including plasmonics-based sensors, WaveFlex sensors, quantum sensing technologies, and artificial intelligence applica-tions for developing real-world sensors. The key areas of the book include an examination and discussion of surface plasmon resonance (SPR), surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), photonic metamaterials (PMMs), lossy mode resonance (LMR), and WaveFlex-based technologies to develop a variety of sensors like biosensors and explosive detection.
The book aims to serve as both a reference and a source of inspiration for students, researchers and industry professionals in electrical and chemical engineering and materials science and engineering who are interested in the transformative power of light for a variety of applications
Dr. Anand M. Shrivastav received his PhD from IIT Delhi in 2018 and has completed postdoctoral research at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Ben-Gurion University (Israel), and the Public University of Navarra (Spain). He has been awarded prestigious fellowships, including the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship and the PBC Postdoctoral Fellowship. Dr. Shrivastav has authored more than 40 journal articles, several book chapters, and one book and has been listed among the top 2% of scientists globally (Stanford University survey) since 2021. He is currently an assistant research professor and DST-INSPIRE Faculty Fellow at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur, India, working in the field of optical biosensing using SPR, LMR, and SERS.
Dr. Subhojyoti Sinha is currently working as a research assistant professor in the Department of Physics and Nanotechnology at the SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur, India. He received his PhD from National Institute of Technology Durgapur in 2015 and did his postdoctoral research works at IIT Madras, India, and Missouri University of Science and Technology, Rolla, USA. Dr. Sinha has authored more than 23 journal articles and several book chapters. His current research interest focuses on exploring the interplay between physics and chemistry at the interfaces of engineered nanomaterials and nanocomposites for next-generation electrical and electrochemical energy storage devices.
Dr. Shailendra Saxena is serving as an assistant professor (research track) in the Department of Physics and Nanotechnology at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), Kattankulathur campus, since March 2023. He earned his PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology Indore in 2016 and has held postdoctoral positions, including fellowships at the University of Alberta, Canada, and the Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel. His research projects have attracted funding from prominent agencies such as the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) and UGC-CSR India. In recognition of his research excellence, Dr. Saxena received the Senior Postdoctoral Award from the Weizmann Institute of Science in 2021. Dr. Saxena has authored more than 70 journal articles and several book chapters.
