Stefano Profumo is a professor of physics at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he serves as deputy director for theory at the Santa Cruz Institute for Particle Physics and associate dean for graduate studies and postdoctoral affairs in the Faculty of Sciences.

A leading expert in particle dark matter, Profumo has authored over 200 peer-reviewed articles that have garnered more than 37,000 citations. His research spans the fascinating intersection of particle physics theory, cosmology, and high-energy astrophysics — exploring some of the universe's most fundamental mysteries. He is the author of the textbook An Introduction to Particle Dark Matter.
