Der viersemestrige Vorlesungszyklus Advanced Problems of Systematic Theology besteht aus vier Teilen: I. Revelation and Reason, II. God and the World, III. Christology and Human Existence, IV. The Kingdom of God and History. Tillich hat diese Vorlesungen in den Jahren 1936 bis 1938 am Union Theological Seminary New York gehalten und sie in der Folgezeit mehrfach wiederholt und variiert. Im Vorlesungsverzeichnis wurden sie vorgestellt als Vorlesungen, "die einen �berblick �ber das gesamte Feld des christlichen Glaubens geben und sich an Studierende h�herer Semester richten". Wir k�nnen sie als die "Urfassung" seines sp�teren opus magnum, der "Systematic Theology" von 1951-1963, betrachten, von der sie sich in mannigfacher Hinsicht unterscheidet.Erstmals publiziert werden Tillichs Manuskripte dieser Vorlesungen, f�r Teil IV ersatzweise Tillichs in deutscher Sprache verfasste Vorlage f�r seinen Vortrag auf der Weltkirchenkonferenz in Oxford 1937 �ber "The Kingdom of God".

We can regard these lectures as the “original version” of his “systematic theology” of 1951–1963, from which it differs in multiple respects.
