Advanced Reading Studies for Guitar: Guitar Technique | High-Register Sight-Reading Studies in All Keys, Positions 8-12 | Major, Minor and Symmetric ... Standard Notation (Advanced Reading: Guitar)

Guitar educator William Leavitt’s Advanced Reading Studies for Guitar is a focused guitar solo book for serious players who want to strengthen high-register sight-reading. Designed as a workshop-style collection, it challenges advanced guitarists to read fluently in positions 8 through 12 while navigating all major, minor, and symmetric scales in every key. It is particularly well suited for dedicated students and teachers seeking structured material that builds accuracy and confidence above the middle of the fretboard.

This instructional collection is presented in standard notation and organized as progressive studies rather than songs. Each study features scale passages, arpeggios, interval exercises, and fully notated chord sequences written in a variety of time signatures. There is no tablature, making it an excellent resource for guitarists committed to mastering traditional music reading.

The value of this collection lies in its direct, practical approach. By concentrating on upper-position reading and comprehensive key coverage, the studies strengthen fretboard visualization, rhythmic precision, and technical control. Working through these pages builds the kind of fluency that translates into ensemble performance, studio work, and advanced repertoire preparation. The structured format keeps practice purposeful, while the musical phrasing ensures the material feels engaging rather than mechanical.

Whether used in a formal lesson setting, conservatory training program, or disciplined self-study routine, this book supports long-term growth as a reading guitarist. It also makes a thoughtful gift for advanced players ready to refine their technique and expand their command of the instrument’s upper register.
