This book contains 35 papers presented at the International Conference on Advances in Fluid Mechanics, which was held in New Orleans, June 11-13, 1996.

The conference is convened by the Scientific Editors of the international series on Advances in Fluid Mechanics to provide a forum for the interchange of new ideas and the presentation of the latest work in the field. The meeting has been motivated by the success of the Book Series and the need to provide a mechanism for discussing new work which may afterwards appear in future volumes.

The Conference covered a wide range of topics, as described below, with emphasis on new applications and to research currently in progress. The basic mathematical formulations of fluid mechanics and their computer modeling will be discussed as well as the relationship between experimental and analytical results.
