This book collects selected papers of the 24th IFToMM China International Conference on Mechanism and Machine Science and Engineering (CCMMS 2024). CCMMS was initiated in 1982, and it is the most important forum held in China for exchange of research ideas, presentation of technical and scientific achievements, and discussion of future directions in the field of mechanism and machine science. The topics include theoretical and computational kinematics, dynamics and control, engines and transmission systems, parallel/hybrid mechanisms and industrial robotics, compliant mechanisms, origami mechanisms and soft robotics, metamorphic mechanisms and robotics, deployable structures and mechanisms, aerospace mechanisms and environmental effects, micro/nano mechanisms and robotics, biologically inspired mechanisms and robotics, medical and rehabilitation robotics, mobile robotics and heavy non-road mobile machines, history of mechanisms, machines and robotics, and engineering education on mechanisms. This book provides a state-of-the-art overview of current advances in mechanism and machine science in China. The inspiring ideas presented in the papers will enlighten the trend in academic research and industrial application. The potential readers include academic researchers and industrial professionals in the field of mechanism and machine science.

About the Author
Dr. Chen is Chair Professor at Tianjin University, China, and Ph.D. (Oxford), ASME Fellow, Fellow of IMechE. She developed the kinematic theory for the topological tessellation of spatial mechanisms and synthesis methodology for deployable structures; established the kinematic model for rigid origami including the general solution for thick-panel origami; and proposed new concepts of multistable mechanisms, kinematic metamaterials, and their modeling. Her representative papers were published in Science, PNAS, Nature Communications, Advanced Functional Materials, Advanced Science, Research, Engineering, Mechanism and Machine Theory, etc.
As the president of Aerospace System Engineering Shanghai, Dr. Lujiang Liu has dedicated himself on space technology for a long time, especially on the high-intensity research and development of launching vehicles, China’s manned space station, Chang’e lunar exploration, and space debris de-orbit. Dr. Lujiang Liu was awarded as Shanghai Leading Talent, National Science and Technology Progress Award Special Award, and the Defense Science and Technology Innovative Research Team Award.
Xinjun Liu is Full Professor with tenure in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. He is "Cheung Kong" Chair Professor and Winner of National Outstanding Youth Fund of China. He is currently MO Chair of International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanism and Machine Science (IFToMM) China-Beijing and Director of the Beijing Key Laboratory of Precision and Ultra-precision Manufacturing Equipment and Control. From 2000 to 2001, he worked as Postdoctoral Researcher at Tsinghua University. He was Visiting Researcher at Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea, in 2002-2003. He was Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) Research Fellow at University of Stuttgart in Germany from 2004 to 2005. He was Visiting Professor with Prof. Dr. Reimund Neugebauer at Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology, Germany, in August 2007. He has published over 190 papers in refereed journals and refereed conference, 90 authorized patents, and three books. His research interests include smart robotics, parallel mechanisms and robots, machining robots, and advanced and smart manufacturing equipment.
Haitao Liu is Full Professor at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Tianjin University, Tianjin, China. He is Winner of the National Outstanding Youth Fund of China. He is currently Member of the International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanism and Machine Science (IFToMM) China-Beijing. From 2013 to 2014, he was Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) Research Fellow and worked as Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) in Germany. He has published over 130 papers in refereed journals and refereed conference proceedings. His research interests include mechanism and robotics, industrial robots for machining, and manufacturing equipment.
Dr. Ming Li, dedicated on the innovation on space deployable structure and mechanism, was awarded as Outstanding Young Talent of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, Shanghai Young Science and Technology Talent. Dr. Li has obtained several achievements of deployable antenna, reflector, and solar array, has published 45 articles, licensed 11 patents, given 4 keynote speeches, and awarded the National Defense Science and Technology Progress Award Special Award and the Defense Science and Technology Innovative Research Team Award.
Tao Sun is Professor at Tianjin University. His research interests are presently focused on mechanisms and robotics. He has published a book and 56 SCI-indexed papers as First/Corresponding Author. He has been authorized 4 US patents and 30 Chinese patents.
