Fifty years ago a UNIVAC computer projected the election of Eisenhower and Nixon for CBS and a polio epidemic affected more than 50,000 Americans. And 25 years ago "Roots" had Americans riveted to their TV sets for eight straight evenings.

New in Chase's this year are the dates of the worst earthquake of the 20th century, the opening of the first drive-in movie, the launch of the first tourist into space and the Great Backyard Bird Count.
