About the Author

Laurie S. Frank has worked in the adventure field for more than 20 years. As the owner and director of GOAL Consulting, she works with schools districts and organizations to develop adventure education programs for children and young adults. She received the Michael Stratton Practitioner of the Year Award from the Association for Experiential Education in 1997.

Ambrose Broz Panico is a veteran educator whose work includes 30 years in public education. He has worked as a teacher, coach, dean, principal, State Due Process Hearing officer, and central office administrator. He is currently the assistant director of the ECHO (Exceptional Children Have Opportunities) Joint Agreement in South Holland, Illinois. His alternative education programs have won the prestigious J.C. Penny Golden Rule Award for Outstanding Community Service and designations as National Service-Learning Schools and National Schools of Character.
