A collection of human interest aviation stories involving virtually every aspect of flying, including airplanes, gliders, ultralights, helicopters, balloons, blimps, and seaplanes. These are unusual--sometimes almost unbelievable--achievements of pilots who are, for the most part unknown, although there are also some stories about aviation heroes, including Jimmy Doolittle, Amelia Earhart, Malcolm Forbes. These stories illustrate courage, compassion and determination.
About the Author: Jack Elliott wrote an aviation column for the Sunday Star-Ledger (Newark, N.J.) for 38 1/2 years, the longest running aviation newspaper column on record. His stories have won numerous national journalism awards and he was inducted into the Aviation Hall of Fame of New Jersey in 1986. He holds a commercial pilots license with instrument, glider, and single-engine seaplane ratings. He has been flying for more than 50 years.
