Aerospace Application of Computational Methods Versus Testing (IMechE Seminar Publications)

'We've designed it by computer, therefore we don't need to test it'. How valid is this argument?
Computers are increasingly being used in all phases of system design, development, and evaluation of aircraft and their systems. As the use of computational methods increases, confidence in their use is growing. Testing is expensive and there is growing pressure to minimize its use. Engineers have to be sure that their actions stand up to scrutiny. Do the software packages and techniques provide adequate integrity and assurance?
This volume examines the present situation and explores the extent to which computational techniques may be relied upon to replace established testing procedures. It will be of great interest and value to those in the aerospace industries, and indeed all engineers involved in fields using computational methods and testing.
