An early nineteenth century copy of Samuel Croxall's noted edition of Aseop's fables, bound in full calf and adorned with many wood engravings. An early nineteenth century copy of Samuel Croxall's edition.Illustrated with many monochrome wood engraved vignettes.A charming collection of fables credited to Aesop, a Greek storyteller and fabulist whose tales were characterised by the anthropomorphic animal characters. This edition was translated and written by Samuel Croxall, and is notable for its addition of his 'instructions' to the end of each fable, which taught the reader how to apply the lessons of the fables to every day life.Bound in full contemporary calf. Bound in full contemporary calf. Externally, front joint tender, rear starting, with wear to the extremities, boards and joints, and the odd slight mark to the boards. Internally firmly bound with bright and generally clean pages with only the odd spot, and an owner's inscription to the front blank. Good.
