African Development: Was the Problem Framed Incorrectly from the Start?

Africa lacks more than just resources or means; it suffers from a deeper crisis-a crisis of the very models that shape its future. Beneath the economic hardships, institutional fragilities, and social tensions lies a fundamental question: how can a society build its future when its guiding principles, values, and organizational mechanisms are themselves in crisis? A sense of human disorientation, the erosion of values, the fraying of the social fabric, injustices, economic dead ends, and governance failures all reveal the many facets of this crisis. Education, the economy, the justice system, religious institutions, governance, the effort to curb social decay, and grassroots-level policy thus become critical arenas for rethinking African society. Yet, Africa can no longer contemplate its future in isolation from the world around it. The shifting balance of global power, geopolitical rivalries, economic dependencies, power dynamics, and new international divisions are redefining the conditions for stability and development-even within more advanced nations.
