A novel of adventure, suspense, & romance set in German East Africa during WWI, basis for the John Huston film (1951) for which Humphrey Bogart won his only Oscar. Orig. published in 1935, this is the first Modern Library edition (#102) from 1940 (but a later, c. 1963) printing, in 308 pages + list of other ML titles in rear, with "A Note on the Author" & "A Very Personal Explanation" by the author preceding the text. An EX-LIB copy, with the usual stamps & markings inside & out & card pocket in front, this 12mo has light olive cloth over boards blindstamped with the ML symbol to front & lettered & ruled in bright silver to spine. Condition is Poor: heavily read with a cracked front hinge, pages mildly tanned, heavy rubbing to lower extremities. But the price-clipped DJ, having been preserved under old library mylar (which has been replaced with new clear mylar cover) is VG+: bright & colorful with stunning cover art by Paul Galdone (unattributed). Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same day shipping on all orders received Weekdays by 2 pm (Pacific time); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.…
