Christopher Merrill's recent books include Boat and Necessities. He is the director of the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa.

His work has been translated into over thirty languages, and as the director of the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa he has conducted cultural diplomacy missions in more than fifty countries.
