Against the Odds

It was 1952. Polio was on a rampage through the country, claiming young Vera as one more victim. Would it destroy her future? Would her life become useless? What could she contribute to society with severely impaired lungs, a twisted torso, and arms that dangled uselessly at her sides? But Vera does not succumb to the victim mentality. Surrounded by a godly, loving family, she determinedly fights to overcome the limitations of her polioravaged body and live as normally as possible. In this book, author Rachael Lofgren has captured Vera's spirit and life. As you journey with Vera, may you become just as inspired as those who walked with her in life.

Buried somewhere deep in the pages of another book, the world around this author seems to fade away as she walks into the world of her characters and brings them alive on paper. When she's not writing, Rachael enjoys pursuing a number of other interests including photography, travel, and friendships. She also enjoys studying world history and culture, science, and nature. Residing in the lovely lake country of Northern Minnesota gives her the opportunity to see especially long winters transform into a springtime Eden.
Rachael is continually amazed and blessed to share in the lives of those she writes about. Her passion for writing continues to grow as God opens new doors of opportunity. To be a scribe recording just one small chapter of His story as He works among His children is a huge privilege, she says. When I write, I feel His pleasure, and it's my heart's desire that what flows from my pen would be for His glory alone.
