Airborne Soldier: From RASC Air Despatcher to the SAS

George Henderson simply wanted to get away from Scotland and gain his driving licence; the British Army’s RASC (Royal Army Service Corps) gave him that chance….and lots more beside.
But once he’d got his driving licence he ended up working on all sorts of Royal Air Force aircraft instead, he became an RASC Air Despatcher and threw cargo out of aircraft doors and into the jungles of Borneo and Malaya.
Not satisfied with this dramatic and much envied lifestyle, he went on to join the newly re-titled 63 (Parachute) Squadron Royal Corps of Transport which was a small part of the British Army’s very tough Airborne Forces.
George was a very motivated sort of soldier though and he had set his sights on getting into the elite SAS (Special Air Service) which he achieved. Anyone who knew George knew he would never fail.
This book will take you through his trials and tribulations of Jungle Warfare, P Company, SAS selection, what it was like to soldier during the draw-down from Aden and fighting in the Secret War in Dhofar.
Be it Air Despatching, Parachuting with 5 Airborne Brigade or serving with 22 SAS Regiment, George Henderson was the ultimate ‘Airborne Soldier’.
