It is beautifully illustrated with detailed line drawings. This book was named "Best Instructional Book" by the National Federation of Press Women in 1989.
About the Author: Jan O'Meara is a 30-year resident of Alaska. She lives in the hills north of Homer, a semi-rural community at the tip of the Kenai Peninsula, in Southcentral Alaska. She is surrounded by forests and fields of wildflowers and other plants, which often find their way to her table. She teaches Alaska history at the local college and is a former news reporter and public school teacher.
