Alaskan Outhouse Reader

The Alaskan Outhouse Reader is a collection of short, gritty, funny, and deeply lived stories from Fairbanks — told the way people actually remember them. Not polished. Not sanitized. Not rewritten for tourists. Just the real stuff: the cold, the characters, the mistakes, the magic, and the strange little moments that only happen in the Interior.

These are local Fairbanks folk lore pieces — the kind you hear at kitchen tables, in school hallways, at the Big I, on traplines, or while thawing out your boots by a barrel stove. Some are hilarious. Some ache a little. Some are just plain true in that way only Fairbanks truth can be.

Written by Ron Blair (Rawny) — a born‑and‑raised Fairbanks kid with the stories still frozen into his bones — this book is built for cabins, shops, and outhouses. Each story is short enough to read in a few minutes, long enough to take you home, and honest enough to make you nod and say, “Yep… that’s exactly how it was.”

If you grew up in Fairbanks, lived there once, or still carry the Interior in your chest like a pilot light, this book is for you. If you didn’t — well, here’s your chance to see what the rest of us survived.

Local Fairbanks Folk Lore, Told the Way We Remember It. Pull up a seat. Leave the door cracked. And don’t forget the emergency paper.
