A comprehensive collection of bookplates and engravings, presented in a leather bound chemise. Prior owner's inscription to the verso of the flap to the chemise, 'J Renshaw, Charles St Birmingham'. This is a large collection of engravings, bookplates and engraved advertisements in a small paperback book and held in a leather chemise. Most of the engravings are 3" by 2". Regarding advertisements there are plates for the following: Cullwick and Son Saddlers of Wolverhampton, J Davis, Draper and Tailor of Worcester, Jane Evans Goat Commercial Inn and Market House, R Heming Pack Horse Commercial Inn, L C Jenkins Cut and Wrought Nails and Wood Screws, James Cox and Co Timber Merchant Stratford on Avon, I N Heward Tailor and Habit Maker Carlisle, William East Commercial Inn Bedworth, Jas Pagett, White Lion Inn Wolverhampton, T Cooper George Commercial Inn Bucks, W C Bailey Commercial Inn Mildenhall, There are several small engravings for town houses and buildings including the Leighton Buzzard Church. Several small images of field sports and of battle scenes as well as women and men enjoying leisure time. There are a few plates depicting Biblical scenes such as 'The Offerings of Cain and Abel'. With royal portraits of Louis 16th, Marie Antoinette, Princess Elizabeth, The Dauphin loosely inserted. Nameplates of Mr John Wilson Dalkeith, Mr Edwin Barlow, Mr James Cox Junr, Miss Lloyds, Mr J A Campbell and C H Blackwell. There are also beautifully engraved blank bookplates, with an area for an owner to write their own name. Most of the illustrations are unsigned, but those that are bear the names J Renshaw, J Havell and Congreve. A fascinating collection of images, particularly the advertisements for the various inns in England. An important piece of book history. In paper wraps, held in a leather chemise. Externally, very smart with light rubbing to the extremities. Chemise is heavily rubbed to the boards and spine, with with only a little loss. Internally, firmly bound. There are several engravings not tipped in loosely inserted to the rear. Pages are bright with just the odd spot. Very Good.
