This set contains: The Alcohol Controversy: An Examination, in the Form of Dialogues, of Articles by Sir James Paget and Others in The Contemporary Review, 1885. A collection of articles on alcohol, temperance, and the impact on society previously published in The Contemporary Review, a British biannual, formerly quarterly, magazine established in 1866 by a group of intellectuals. Contributors were intent on promoting their views on current affairs in line with other church-minded people. Compiled by James Whyte. Dated from the British Library. Alcohol and Human Life, 1929. A detailed and comprehensive study on the effects of alcohol, being partly a revision of certain facts and figures in the last edition of "Alcohol and the Human Body" by Sir Victor Horsley and Dr. Mary Sturge. Written by Courtenay C. Weeks, a British surgeon at the Royal Herbert Hospital. With a foreword from Sir Thomas Barlow, a British royal physician. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. The odd small mark to the cloth. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. Minor age toning to the endpapers. Library ink stamps to the front endpaper of The Alcohol Controversy with a contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper of Alcohol and Human Life. Very Good.…
