Temperance tome aimed at the parent, teacher, & school administrator, provided with the warning that "if the children under your care get no special teaching [on the nature & effects of alcohol], there is a "moral certainty" that they be "greatly injured by alcoholic liquors & in many cases their prospects will be ruined & their lives lost." Orig. published in 1880, this is an 1881 printing of that FIRST EDITION. Small 12mo (4.75" x 7") has rust-colored cloth-covered boards blindstamped with title & design to front, lettered in gilt to spine. Condition is downgraded to Good due to dampstaining to top & some bottom page edges; does not interfere with text. Denting & water spotting to fore edge side of front board, heavy spotting to rear board. Stitched binding is strong & straight, hinges secure, pages creamy white & unmarked save for former owner's name & inscription to ffep. No DJ, likely as issued.
