Alfa Romeo in the Giro d'Italia & Tour de France

Step into a lesser-known chapter of cycling history—where the roar of engines followed the rhythm of pedals.

In this richly illustrated and deeply researched work, Tom Bruynel uncovers the fascinating story of Alfa Romeo’s involvement in the world’s greatest cycling races, including the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France. From the elegant 1930s broadcast vehicles to the rugged Matta support cars of the 1950s, this book reveals how iconic Italian engineering quietly supported some of the sport’s most legendary moments.

Through rare photographs, archival discoveries, and detailed commentary, readers are taken behind the scenes of professional cycling—where team cars, journalists’ vehicles, and race director machines played a crucial role in shaping the drama on the road. Along the way, legendary figures like Fausto Coppi and Gino Bartali appear not just as champions, but as part of a broader ecosystem powered by innovation, logistics, and passion.

Perfect for automotive enthusiasts, cycling fans, and lovers of European sporting heritage, this book offers a unique perspective on two worlds that rarely meet in print—but have always raced side by side.

Buckle up and enjoy the ride through history.
