© 1977: A stand-alone novel by Ian Watson. 1st printing of 1978 edition. UK SFBC #1139:- Synopsis: Lila Makindi is a 22nd century African girl, growing up in a peaceful and harmonious world. Old conflicts and destructive technologies have been left behind now that Mankind has made contact with three advanced and benevolent alien races - not through physical space flight, but mentally, by developing ancient mind and body disciplines. Lila's ambition is to become one of these psychic astronauts; but when she is selected for training she begins to discover that the truth about these alien species is not as simple, or as idyllic, as it seems. Her curiosity leads her into mystery and danger as she tries to discover the truth behind the embassies from which Man communicates with the stars:- Review(s): This Ian Watson novel is a fascinatingly complex, multi-layered SF puzzle. Compulsively readable and vividly written, it contains all the lavish inventiveness which has made his previous novels so acclaimed, and which led J G Ballard to describe him as "the most interesting British SF writer of ideas - or, more accurately, the only British SF writer of ideas":- (original cost unmarked).…

Terms of sale
All books offered for sale are complete and sound (any missing / loose pages or cracked / broken spines will be mentioned in the book description). Our book-seller images are of, not just the listed edition / print, but also of the actual book you will be buying (the cover collages are made from 3 individual scans of each book that are then displayed as a wrap-around image - the books themselves are NOT damaged in any way by this process). Book sizes, where given, are to the nearest ¼". Each book has then been graded according to its condition, taking into account the degree of creasing to the covers and/or spine, presence of scuff marks or tears, any pen marks or inscriptions & any page tanning. We try to be as fair & accurate as possible with the grading of our books, but if you are unhappy with any classification of condition please let us know as soon as possible. If, for any reason at all, you are unhappy with your purchase, we offer a no quibble, money back guarantee within 30 days of purchase. We also welcome any feedback or comments that you may have as we are always trying to maintain our high levels of customer service.
