Synopsis
Alliteration Alphabet: A fun way to teach preliteracy skills to kids! was developed by two educators who needed to supplement the curriculums they were using in their early intervention, preschool/preschool disabled and autistic support classrooms. Alliteration Alphabet focuses the child s attention, not only to the letters and their sounds, but also to the beginning of the words. It teaches them to notice the common feature/sound of the word while making a real world connection with the illustrations. Emergent readers also use alliteration as a method for learning phonological awareness. Fun and engaging learning methods, like those outlined in Alliteration Alphabet, will create motivating educational moments for the children, while supporting their overall development in becoming a life-long learner. The two educators teach with a multi-sensory approach. Alliteration Alphabet models this approach for teaching the letters, their sounds and environmental connections using alliteration. Both educators have utilized Alliteration Alphabet in their classrooms and in the home to promote their own children s development of preliteracy skills. Through this book, they hope to share their knowledge and love of teaching with you and your life-long learners.
About the Author
Taralee A. O Malley-Hurff is an educator, a philanthropist and a published author. Her book, 100 Things To Do Before You Are 10, is the go to resource for family bonding and adventure. Taralee has passionately contributed to the fields of special education and early childhood education since 1998, meeting her students as needed in the home or in school. She excels at recognizing each child s unique gift and successfully ignites their love of learning through exploration, discovery and play. It is through this work that Inspired Education was born. As a philanthropist, Taralee currently serves as the President of the Board of Trustees for the Southern Regional New Jersey Early Intervention Collaborative. This is her 7th year as a Board Member. Taralee enjoys family life in Southern New Jersey with her husband and three children. Heather Grim is the Supervisor of Student Services in Early Intervention at the Berks County Intermediate Unit in Berks County, PA. She has worked at the Intermediate Unit for the last 14 years and has been in her current position for the last four years. Her heart continues to be in educating children during their preschool years, and in her position she is able to work with staff to determine some of the best ways to program for children. She enjoys supporting staff with programming and works with administration to support program growth and needs. Heather also is a certified Safety Care Instructor and supports behavior trainings for the Early Intervention program. Heather is a mom of two busy boys, Hunter and Tanner ages 12 and 8, and a very large Rottweiler named Diesel. Her boys, their sports, and her wonderful extensive family keep her busy and loving life.
