An Altar of Stories to Liminal Saints (Paperback or Softback)

With An Altar of Stories to Liminal Saints, Rios de la Luz returns with a new collection of stories inspired by her new life as a mother.

Cults compete for dominance in a town divided by an ethereal rift, a woman is tasked with delivering magical packages, and a dying mermaid saves a young girl from a sinister pursuer in this genre-bending new collection.

Blending the deeply personal and de la Luz’s love for the fantastic, Saints brings together ghosts and grief, demons and dirt eating, the immediately personal and the intensely whimsical.

"An Altar of Stories to Liminal Saints is ultimately about the hope for a better earth achieved through a levelling of accounts. Hoping that the earth and sea will respond to the everyday violence of patriarchy and colonialism, translating this hope through fiction. And these stories are exactly that: moments of hoping that the entire earth will make a better world and that we can think such a world once the earth has settled." -- J. Moufawad-Paul for minor literature[s]

"In Mexica theology, hearts were extracted from people’s chests–it was imperative to the ritual that the heart still beat when it was presented to the moon, the sun, and other deities as an offering in exchange for mercy. This is what Rios de la Luz does in her short story collection, An Altar of Stories to Liminal Saints, she brings the beating heart of her characters to the reader through gruesome happenings and lyrical prose." -- Juania Sueños for Infrarrealista Review
