Andy Clewer is a successful self-made businessman and entrepreneur who likes the high life. The company he founded is a leader in the production and sale of alternative medicines and is highly profitable. However, Andy treats it as his extended bank account to fund a string of racehorses and his lifestyle.

Married to his long-suffering wife Suzanne, he is unable to resist the lure of a beautiful woman. Believing his secret to be safe, he starts a relationship with the young wife of a business colleague that leads him into dangerous waters. He uses his relationship to place bets, using borrowed money, on one of the racehorses owned by his company.

With tension on the racecourse and in the boardroom, Andy's passion for gambling and fine dining means he runs up debts which bring about his downfall.
