"You'd better shop around" is this guide's down-to-earth message. Coauthored by a medical herbalist and an holistic health specialist, it is likely to appeal to readers dissatisfied with Western medical orthodoxy. First explaining the concepts underlying allopathy (i.e., standard Western medicine), acupuncture, chiropractic therapy, homeopathy, medical herbalism and osteopathy/naturopathy, the authors then present case studies of a wide variety of medical problems followed by practitioners' descriptions of how these would be treated according to each discipline. Though even-handed assessment is the goal, inevitably the language of acupuncture comes to sound quaintly medieval; predictably, the general practitioner frequently resorts to antibiotics; and herbalistic and homeopathic treatments begin by restoring patient immunity worn down by years of antibiotic use. Thus, it is ironic that in severe illness (e.g., tuberculosis) the burden of cure falls squarely on orthodoxy, despite the lure of alternatives.

Our Bookshop is in Copse Road in Clevedon and is open every day, seven days a week, from 10.00am to 5.00pm. The Bookshop Co-operative comprises nearly 650 members from around the world and was set up to stop the only second-hand bookshop in our town from closing. The benefit of being a member/shareholder is only social: no-one benefits financially. All profits are used to improve the bookshop and its stock, and, through events, to contribute to the literacy and literary profile of our town. We take care to describe our books accurately and in detail, and to pack them so that they arrive with you in the same condition that they leave us. However,
should you not be completely satisfied with your purchase, then you may return
the books(s) to us and, provided you do this within 30 days of receiving the
book(s), then we will fully refund the cost of the book and postage.

Shipping Terms

We pack our books in corrugated book wrap or book boxes. We try to respond to orders the same day as we receive them or during the next business day. Shipping costs are based on books weighing up to 1.1 lb, or 0.5KG. If your book order is particularly heavy or oversized, we may contact you to request an additional payment to cover extra postage costs.
