Always On Never Present: Reclaiming Deep Work, Human Judgment, and Real Productivity in the Age of Noise

You are connected to everything. You are present for almost nothing.

Modern organisations have built, with the best of intentions, a system that mistakes activity for output, reporting for thinking, and visibility for capability. The calendar is full. The chat thread is running. The dashboard is green. And the work - the actual work - is waiting.

Always On, Never Present is a book about what that costs. Drawing on 12+ years of manufacturing and operations experience, Ashok Kumar Murugesan examines how the tools meant to make us more productive have quietly replaced the judgment, attention, and presence that real productivity requires.

From the factory floor to the boardroom, from IIoT architecture to AI strategy, this book makes a precise and urgent argument: the most valuable thing in any organisation is not the system that tracks the work. It is the person who understands it.

For anyone who has ever ended a full day of meetings and realised nothing was made, solved, or decided - this book is for you.
