Map. Engraving with hand coloring. Image measures 10 1/4" x 7 7/8". Beautiful map of North America and South America by Herman Moll that is rich in speculative cartography from the time; California appears as an island and the mythical Lakes Iarajes (Xarayes) and Parima are shown in South America. The map covers from Baffin's Bay south as far as Tierra del Fuego. England, Ireland, and Scotland appear in the north-easternmost corner. "Variable winds" are depicted with arrows, hachure, and coloring-- a unique feature for a map of this time. This edition has beautiful hand coloring and shows mountain ranges, rivers, and lakes. As the demand for his work was sustained, he issued many revised editions of his work.…
