The American Affair with Openness: What the Left Unleashed from Pandora's Box

An examination of the threats to patriotism, masculinity, privacy, and honest behavior in American society and the classroom. The American Affair with Openness is one students whistle-blowing on the intrusions of Left liberalism and political correctness on campus, in textbooks, in legislation, and in social discourse everywhere. In all, the essays (un)cover the negative gains of the feminist movement, investigate the impact of the media upon social standards, and addresses the complexities of defining oneself as a member of a minority and question the consequences if everyone assumed such a mentality. Brimming with classical liberalism and natural law, this book reflects research into the works of Frederic Bastiat, Ayn Rand, George Orwell, and some more contemporary writers like Christina Hoff Sommers and Robert Bly. Also, the work of Allan Bloom (The Closing of the American Mind) is reviewed and much focus is centered on the purported values of Openness with its relativism, cultural relativism, and political correctness. From forethought to afterthought this monograph questions the procedures and ethics of making legislation and, to an extent, personal choices based upon the politics of Openness.
