One American Robin

**Winner of the 2017 Independent Publishers of New England Award - Best Literary Fiction** Robin—twenty-five, lonely, aimless—is drifting through summer in Providence. It’s the worst recession in generations, but she’s got bigger problems. For starters, her father is losing his mind to dementia. He also might be falling love, which is nice, but begs the question: is it adultery if you can’t remember you’re married? She finds a welcome distraction in Corey. Strange, detached Corey, her neighbor from across the street, with his bleached-white T-shirts and rigorous home repair schedule, his circular saw screeching through the night. Robin is intrigued—and attracted---but it seems like the more time she spends with him, the less she knows. As summer bleeds into fall, and as the projects in Corey’s house are completed room by room, Robin is consumed by familial fissures, money problems, and an obsession with capturing memories—her own, and her father’s, which are quickly deteriorating. A debut novel at once intimate and sprawling, funny and heartbreaking, One American Robin heralds the arrival of a smart, intuitive new voice in fiction.
