261, [2] p. 16 cm. Quarter leather with paper covered boards. From our As Is shelf. Spine deteriorated, front board nearly detached, rear cover nearly split in two, paper chipped away. Ink notes and stains on endpapers. Date 1798 appears along with name Aaron ? Last two pages are Table of Contents. Title continues: "Calculated to improve the minds and refine the taste of youth. To which are prefixed Rules in Elocution, and Directions for Expressing the Principal Passions of the Mind. Being The Third Part of a Grammatical Institute of the English Language." Book includes rules for reading and speaking, general directions for exressing the passions, Gen. Washington's resignation at the close of the war, History of Pocahontas, Oration on the Boston Massacre, etc. and many other articles, dialogues, poetry, lessons. Skeel 477. Tenth (Connecticut) edition with "great Improvements" - after the 9th edition H&G dropped the "Connecticut" but continued the numbering.
