American Treasures: Building, Leveraging, and Sustaining Capacity in Historically Black College and Universities

This work uses current research data and interviews to present a cogent discussion of strategies and tactics needed to keep the HBCU community a healthy vital component of American educational life. The threats and problems of intuitional life are not glossed over rather they are discussed within the parameters of successful planning and implementation.

Christopher Shults, Dean of Institutional Effectiveness and Strategic Planning, oversees and develops the institutional effectiveness system aimed at refining programs and services at BMCC. He also oversees the Offices of Assessment and Institutional Research. In previous roles, Shults served as Executive Director of Planning and Institutional Effectiveness at Suffolk County Community College, and prior to that, was Acting Associate Provost for Academic Programs, Innovation and Strategy at Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena, Mississippi. He earned his Ph.D. in Higher Education at the University of Michigan.
