Volume I only, with the text and map relating to the United States and North America. Original full calf with morocco spine label, well worn, top and bottom of spine significantly chipped, front board nearly detached. 696 pp., 8 maps and plates (7 folding.) 5 of the maps have contemporary, but undoubtedly not original, color. An 8th map, of Maine, has only letters colored in one place. The maps all show wear, especially along the folds, but have little or no loss along folds or at fold junctions. The fore edge is bumped and somewhat dog-eared. One map, of the Southern States, has a ragged fore edge from misfolding, not affecting the printed portion of the map. The map of the world is weak along the folds. The Map of the States of Virginia, North Carolina ., by Joseph Purcell, is particularly interesting as it is one of the handful of printed maps of the period which identify the proposed State of Franklin in western North Carolina/eastern Tennessee.
