Embedded Systems have become indispensible in today's modern advanced technical world. All embedded systems are built with a microcontroller. This book is intended for teaching the usage and programming of the microcontrollers. The book starts with the basic microprocessor and navigates to the most frequently used microcontroller 8051. Complete attention has been paid to the 8051 right from the architecture, instruction sets, programming model, interfacing with the peripherals, application projects and quiz for testing the learners understanding. After 8051, wareness has been raised on PIC microcontroller in a concise way. Finally, few projects/assignments have been discussed and included as per the requirement of the topic. Reader will be in a comfortable state to do them all. ARM is one of the most famous and high end microcontroller architectures which are growing like anything in the market. So the book will get over with solid discussion on ARM architecture with and without THUMB architecture. As far as we analysed, there is no other microcontroller book in the market which has covered ARM and 8051 in this fashion. Throughout the book, there are practical examples which will surely make the reading a fun and a learning experience. About the Author
D.P. Kothari is presently the Director General of Raisoni Group of Institutions, Nagpur. He obtained his B.E. (Electrical) in 1967, M.E. (Power Systems) in 1969 and Ph.D. in 1975 from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, Rajasthan. He was also associated with Vindhya Group of Institutions as Director General. Also he served as Vice Chancellor, VIT, Vellore, Director in-charge and Deputy Director (Administration), IIT-Delhi as well as Head in the Centre of Energy Studies at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and as Principal, Visvesvaraya Regional Engineering College, Nagpur. He was Visiting Professor at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Melbourne, Australia, during 1982-83 and 1989, for two years. He was also NSF Fellow at Purdue University, USA in 1992. He is a Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), Indian National Science Academy (INSA), Institution of Engineers, India (IEI) and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He has authored/co-authored more than 25 books. Shriram K. Vasudevan, M.Tech., M.B.A., (Ph.D.) has done his masters in the field of Embedded Systems. Currently he is working with AMRITA University as a Manager Learning and Development (Technical). He has six years of industrial and academic experience. He has worked with top multinational companies like WIPRO and ARICENT Technologies. He was also associated with VIT University. Also he has published 24 papers in international journals. He was awarded by Wipro Technologies and VIT University for his technical contributions. His invention obtained him inventor award from Intellectual Ventures of India. He has got strong interest in the area of Operating systems, Embedded Systems and Networking. He has authored/co-authered four books. Ms. Subashri V. has obtained B.Tech. and M.Tech. in computer science. She is currently working as a Programmer Analyst at Cognizant Technology Solutions, Chennai. She has published a lot of papers in international journals. She has a great passion towards programming, especially, programming in C. She is also the co-author of two books. Her areas of interests are Operating system and Networking. Sivaraman R., M.Tech. is currently working as Programmer Analyst in Cognizant Technology Solutions, Chennai. He has done his masters in the field of sensor system technology. He has one year of industrial experience. He has got an invention award from Intellectual Ventures of India and he had filed an Indian Patent in the field of automotive electronics. He has published eight papers in international journals. His areas of interest lies in the field of Physical Sensors, Chemical Sensors and Embedded Systems.
