Synopsis
This book aims at undertaking a benefit/cost analysis to investigate the impact of increasing the coverage of the noise logger over the city of Montreal. Extensive efforts were exerted towards achieving the following tasks: (1) collecting data from the city of Montreal and assuming missing data from the literature, (2) developing the benefit/cost analysis model for noise loggers, which includes a leak simulator model (i.e. small, medium, and large), leak financial model (i.e. repair and maintenance costs, water losses and their associated costs), leak temporal model (i.e. repair and maintenance time), risk model (i.e. probability and consequences of failure), and systems financial model (i.e. capital and operational expenditures – CAPEX & OPEX), and (3) introducing an automated tool that implements the benefit/cost analysis model for expanding the coverage of the noise loggers leak detection system over the city of Montreal water distribution network. The above stated tasks are laid out in a detailed format, including comprehensive elaborations on theories behind the employed methods, and direct application to the city of Montreal case study.
