Analytical Instrumentation is a treatment of process analytical technology by a distinguished group of experts, documenting over 50 years of process analyzer development, from its origins in the research laboratory at Ludwigshafen, DE, in the late 1930s to its current, dynamic worldwide status in the early 1990s.
Designed for field analyzer technicians, newly graduated engineers-in-training and experienced manufacturer's application personnel, this book offers both theory and real-world experience, including:
- Drawings of sample systems that work and comments on ones that don't
- Justifications and organization guidelines on process analyzer systems
- Discussions on implementation issues, including justification, purchasing, training and validation
- Descriptions of specific analyzer types and the fundamentals of application for a variety of situations
Robert E. Sherman has more than 25 years of experience in the design and commissioning of process analyzer and continuous emission monitor systems (CEMS). These systems are monitoring refining, petrochemical, electric power generation, cement production, steel production and many other industrial process plants. Specific expertise includes design of sample probes, sample transfer lines, sample conditioning systems, CEMS for regulatory reporting, analyzer system cabinets and walk-in climate-controlled analyzer shelters. He has managed process analyzer projects including specification, engineering, procurement, fabrication, acceptance testing, field commissioning, documentation, operations and maintenance training.
Larry Rhodes is a Senior Process Analyzer Engineer in the Control Engineering Directorate of Shell Oil Products Company. After receiving his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from LSU in 1979, he taught Chemistry prior to joining Monsanto Chemical Company as a Process Analyzer Chemist. He joined Shell in 1983 and has been primarily involved with providing technical support to multiple facilities, and implementing process analyzers on projects. He is currently a member of the Analyzer Standards Committee of the API.
