Undated reprint, hardcover in black cloth-covered boards. Head of page block is dyed black. 345pp text is clean, clear and complete with no markings or soil. Not exlib. Original dj is clipped but price still present. The works of George Stubbs are among the best loved of eighteenth-century painting. Less well known are the drawings which show the extraordinary knowledge of anatomy on which his work was based and which gave him a reputation in his lifetime as foremost among the anatomists of the day. In his dual role as painter and anatomist, George Stubbs is unique in English Art, and his full stature can be appreciated properly only when his achievement in the field of anatomy is understood.
