Jenofonte (c. 430-354 a. C.) es uno de los escritores en prosa m�s sobresalientes que dio Atenas en su per�odo cl�sico. Su formaci�n �tica (estudi� con S�crates) y su experiencia militar, nacida de su admiraci�n por Esparta, le otorgaron un rico bagaje vital que hizo de �l un autor ecl�ctico, que cultiv� el g�nero hist�rico, la filosof�a y el ensayo did�ctico.

An�basis, su mejor obra, es el incre�ble relato en primera persona de la hist�rica retirada de un ej�rcito griego que se hab�a internado en territorio enemigo hasta Cunaxa, cerca de la antigua Babilonia. Jenofonte fue uno de los generales responsables de guiar a un contingente de m�s de diez mil soldados a trav�s de territorio hostil para llegar de nuevo al Mediterr�neo.
