Synopsis

This is the first English translation of a portion of "Historia Antigua de Mexico" written originally in Spanish by celebrated Mexican historian Mariano Veytia. He relates the history, astronomy, and religious practices as he developed them from the charts, diagrams, and paintings of the Native Americans. In addition, he presents the account of America'a first settlers, who left from the Biblical Tower of Bable at the time of the confusion of tongues.

About the Author

Don Mariano Fernandez de Echevarria Y Veytia ws a Spanish gentleman, born in Puebla de los Angeles, Mexico, 16 July 1720, a decendent of Spanish royalty, and a friend and associate of King Carlos III of Spain. He lived and wrote much while in Europe, serving as attorney for the Spanish Royal Councils and ultimately becoming Trustee Attorney General. Remembering his homeland, he later returned to Mexico and continued in his extensive literary career. It is estimated he died in 1778.
