A smart sixth edition of this detailed historical work on ancient law from British jurist and historian Henry James Sumner Maine. Sixth edition. An exploration of some of the earliest ideas of mankind as they are reflected in ancient laws, and identifying the relationship with modern thought. With chapters on law of nature and equity, primitive society, early history of testamentary succession, property, contracts, and crime.
