An Angel in the Making

The book is a promise a mother made to her dying daughter. She felt that a near death experience her mother had as a teenager, helped her lose the fear of dying and wanted her to share it with all the other angels in the making.

Once we arrived at the top of the mountain, Charlie sat down and beheld the view. Smiling, she recalled the beautiful sunsets that she had enjoyed there. Then she said "you know, mom, death is definitely our most private struggle, but I'm not afraid or confused anymore. I'm at peace. Being terminally ill only force me to acknowledge that death is real. It has been very difficult to accept. For some reason, I thought I would decide when and how I was going to die. I feel that I have grown a lot." "How so, Charlie?" I asked. "Well, at the beginning of my illness, I could move around and do things myself; it wasn't so hard. But as my body became less mobile, I had to depend on others to help. The transition was hard to accept, but is was a learning and growing experience. The suffering, both emotional and physical, that came with this illness, expanded my ability and perceptions. Now I can understand more than I ever did before. The reason I didn't die when I overdosed was because we weren't ready. Remember how hard it was when Papa died, because it was so sudden and we felt we hadn't said good-bye? Only time helped ease that pain. If you think about it, we are fortunate that things happen as they have, for we have been given more time for preparation. There is a whole process that needs to be completed, one of growth and acceptance. I see it now as an opportunity, a gift. This whole time, I have been talking about getting cured, and in reality it's about healing."
