Animadversions On. William Parry's 'Strictures On The Origin Of Moral Evil'. With An Appendix, Containing Brief Strictures On W. Bennet's 'Remarks' On The Same Subject by Thomas Hill. This polemical work presents a critical examination of William Parry's Strictures On The Origin Of Moral Evil, addressing especially the Hypothesis advanced by Dr. Williams regarding the origin and nature of moral evil. Hill develops Preliminary Observations on truth, definitions, and data, then answers Parry's objections in a structured sequence: incidental principles, the notion of passive and moral power, the ideas of liberty and necessity, and the alleged equity of moral responsibility under providence. The Appendix adds Brief Strictures On Bennett's Remarks. Throughout, Hill defends a framework wherein moral evil arises from a metaphysical, negative tendency opposed to divine sovereignty, emphasizes divine equity, and advocates the necessity of divine influence. The work clarifies theological language, supports evangelical doctrine, and encourages careful inquiry into the origin of sin.
