Gr 3-7 Through gorgeous color photographs, young readers are introduced to the many different animals that build nests. Among this group are the mallee fowl of Australia with its three-foot deep pits and the ant lion with its tiny sand traps, the marmots with their burrows and the beavers in their mounds, the mud dauber wasp with its mud nest and the spittlebug's bubble nest. The photographs are enhanced by the clearly written text which explains the animal behavior involved in nest building. A solid addition to nature books which is more appealing and colorful than Animals Build Amazing Homes (Random, 1979) by Hedda Nussbaum and updates Animals That Build Their Homes (National Geographic, 1976; o.p.) by Robert M.
