Annals of the Wars of the Eighteenth Century: Compiled from the Most Authentic Histories of the Period: Volume 3

Annals Of The Wars Of The Eighteenth Century: Compiled From The Most Authentic Histories Of The Period by Edward Cust. This comprehensive, global survey traces eighteenth-century warfare as Britain confronts rivals across America, India, the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, and European theatres. It foregrounds leadership, discipline, logistics, diplomacy, and shifting alliances, and it profiles commanders such as Washington, Coote, Elliot, Hyder Ali, Suffren, Grasse, and Rodney. The narrative moves between decisive land battles, seaborne campaigns, sieges, and naval operations, including the Yorktown campaign, the Saintes, the Gibraltar siege, Minorca, and actions in the Carnatic and Indian Ocean theatres, while outlining Franco–Spanish coalitions and British countermeasures. Political dimensions — prisoner exchanges, peace negotiations, and the move toward a Versailles settlement recognizing American independence — are integrated with military history. The work shows how global warfare reshaped empire, alliance networks, and national destinies.
