Annotations on The Four Gospels and the Acts of the Apostles, Compiled and Abridged for Use of Students, Vol.1 Only of 3 = Matthew's Gospel

lxxii+463 pp + fine engraved fold out map of Eastern Mediterranean (Italy to Chaldea) with just one tear but not affecting completeness of map text. 8vo half leather & patterned blue cloth (faded). Spine restored with new paper label. Vol.1 of 3 [all Matthew], internally vg, clean & unmarked, no foxing. A learned commentary citing Greek, and Hebrew occasionally, but refreshingly unlike most modern commentaries with some near obsessions with modern scholarship and theories, it follows the tradition of Aquinas and many Reformers of citing extensively patristic sources, and in this case also C16 & 17 ones; and a useful introd which lists early New Testament editions from Erasmus on, with brief lives of Reformers and Fathers. Size: 8vo.
