Another Day in Post-Racial America : To the Mothers of the Black Lives Matter Movement, with Love

"One of the best Black Lives Matter books of all time" - BookAuthority Dedicated to the mothers of the Black Lives Matter Movement, and set among the stories of unarmed black men, women, and children who were victims of excessive use of force and racial bias, Liuzzi Hagan’s memoir is a candid, emotionally intimate account of the devastating personal effects of politically motivated and systematized racism in America. She is white; her husband is black. They have mixed-race twin daughters. Their relationship spans over forty years. As both a witness to and a target of racial bias, her stories, ranging from microaggressions to the truly terrifying, are told in vivid and affecting detail. Interwoven throughout the stories are appeals for empathy and insight, as well as suggestions on how to dismantle systemic racism and change the race narrative to make America safer, egalitarian, and a place where black lives matter. This is a story of shock, outrage, heartbreak, forbearance, love, and hope for her family, for the families who lost loved ones to racially motivated violence, and for America. It includes discussion questions for classrooms and book clubs. “…Told with vivid emotion and will spark discussion and high-level thinking among readers…” ~The BookLife Prize Reader reviews: “[Liuzzi Hagan] challenges her readers to think, and more importantly, to act differently…” “I found healing in these pages.” “Liuzzi Hagan’s storytelling style is captivating. I am recommending the book to everyone…” “I was led to examine my thoughts and assumptions on race. The kind of reflection that [Liuzzi Hagan] encourages is soul-enriching and honest.” “…Outrage powers some of this book, as does fear, as does hope… a call for empathy, understanding and discussion of race founded in goodwill…”

Dianne Liuzzi Hagan is an award-winning author and a powerful voice in contemporary social justice literature. Known for her "prophetic and poetic" storytelling, she masterfully blends multicultural mystery with deeply personal explorations of race equality in America.

As the creator of the acclaimed A Cadence Mystery series, Hagan has earned a reputation for crafting "atmospheric folk noir" that tackles systemic racism and historical trauma through the lens of Indigenous folklore and interracial dynamics. The series has been the recipient of five Literary Titan Gold Book Awards and four American Fiction Awards finalist. The books in A Cadence Mystery are celebrated for their rich character depth and fast-moving, multilayered suspense.

Hagan's storytelling is rooted in her own lived experience. Her powerful memoirs, American Dreaming: A Memoir of Interracial Love, Estrangement, and Race Equality and Another Day in Post-Racial America: To the Mothers of the Black Lives Matter Movement, With Love, offer an "own voices" perspective on interracial love, family estrangement, and the enduring myth of a post-racial society. By contrasting her family's history in the cities of Albany and Syracuse, New York, with the history of systemic racism and the current events that gave rise to the Black Lives Matter movement, she provides a roadmap for healing the racial divide.

Whether writing chilling supernatural thrillers or provocative creative nonfiction, Dianne Liuzzi Hagan remains committed to uncovering "ugly truths" and celebrating the resilience of the human spirit. She lives and writes in the Piedmont-Triad area of North Carolina, but she remains sentimental about the natural beauty, rich history, and the unique intersection of cultural diversity in Central New York.
