8º. 66 ff . Woodcut device on title page, head-piece, decorated initial letter. Marginal paperflaw on A5. Very good condition. Full later vellum, inked title and year on spine. Johann Pistorius of Nidde (1546-1608) physician and occult writer was a subject of controversy not only because of his interest in medicinal alchemy & kabbalah but also his religious views. In an attack on him by Jacob Heilbronner, 'Daemonomania Pistoriana,' it is claimed that . from a physician Pistorius became a politician, from a politician a theologian, from a Lutheran a Calvinist, from a Calvinist a papist. Thorndike, VI, 462. This tract was written after Pistorius' conversion in 1586 and mentions the conversion of Margrave Jacob III to Catholicism. It is a rare work and lacking from most major collections.
