About this Item
Late in the nineteenth century and into the early 20th century, Christian publisher David C. Cook issued the "New Sabbath Library", which consisted of numerous inspirational titles, mostly fiction. Some were written for adults, but a great many were aimed at the juvenile market. They were cheaply made, issued in an over-size paperback format. They frequently were illustrated with half-tone pictures and line drawings. Due to the ephemeral nature of the format, few have survived in decent condition. ***************************************** This is "The Young Ditch Rider, a Story of the Plains" to Which is Added, "In the Land of the Mirage", and Other Stories by John H. Whitson. The book was issued as the New Sabbath Library No. 12 in 1900. These are essentially adventure stories, that serve to illustrate what nerve, stamina, and determination can do in the face of calamity and seriously bad weather. ***************************************** TABLE OF CONTENTS (Some of the stories are very short) : The Young Ditch Rider / In the Land of the Mirage / The Shack on the Plateau / A Heroine of the Plains / From Forest to Printing Press / Why the Mills Were Started / The Indian Cadmus / Whistling Johnny **************************************** SERIES : New Sabbath Library (No. 12) / TITLE : The Young Ditch Rider, a Story of the Plains - to Which is Added, In the Land of the Mirage, and Other Stories / AUTHOR : John H.
